First and foremost, we needed to choose an area that could just as easily cater to the Greater Toronto Area (including the Muskokas) as it could to the southern Quebec region (e.g. Montreal and surrounding areas). According to sales statistics of wake surfing gear and boats, these areas are a hotbed of growth for the sport in North America.
Calabogie Lake is 45 minutes west of Canada’s Capital – Ottawa – and is equidistant (approx. 3 hours) from the Toronto/Muskoka area and from Montreal. For air travelers, it is just over 1 hour from the Ottawa International Airport (YOW). Calabogie is often referred to as the “Muskokas of Ottawa”.
Calabogie also has significant accommodations in the area, from the Calabogie Peaks Resort – home of the event – to the Calabogie Lodge, Calabogie Highlands Resort, and Jocko’s Beach Resort. For those who would like to bring tents, there are nearby campgrounds. For those who have an RV, ample parking is available!
… and before you think Calabogie is just another cottage area, take a look at what it has to offer visitors! You might just want to book your summer vacation around the Canadian Wake Surf Nationals to enjoy the Calabogie experience.
